Hello everybody,
Today I would like to present you the famous game Roulette. This Casino game was first played in France in around the 17th century. Nowadays it is one of the most popular European but not only gambling game. The city Monte Carlo in Monaco is a well known and famous casino centre for playing roulette.
Basics
Usually there are up to eight players and they play against the House represented by the croupier sometimes House is called the dealer, who spins the roulette wheel and is responsible for the wagers and payouts. In the European roulette and French roulette version, the wheel has 37 slots representing 36 numbers and one zero but in the USA most roulette wheels have two zeros and therefore 38 slots.
Each player buys-in a different coloured chips so their bets don't get mixed up. At the end of play, if you won, you exchange back the colorued chips with cash chips. Each cash chip has its own amount printed on it.Those cash chips can be exchanged for real cash when you are leaving the Casino
To play roulette, you place your bet on numbers in the table layout or on the outside, and when everybody at the table had a chance to place their bets, the croupier starts the spin and launches the ball. Just a few moments before the ball is about to drop over the slots, the croupier says 'no more bets'. From that moment no one is allowed to place - or change - their bets. The winners are those bets that are on or around the number that comes up. Also the bets on the outside of the layout win if the winning number is represented.

The payouts
A bet on one number only, called a straight-up bet, pays 35 to 1. (You collect 36. With no House advantage you should collect 37 (38 in the USA on double zero roulette wheels).
A two-number bet, called split bet, pays 17 to 1.
A three-number bet, called street bet, pays 11 to 1.
A four-number bet, called corner bet, pays 8 to 1.
A six-number bet, pays 5 to 1.
A bet on the outside dozen or column, pays 2 to 1.
A bet on the outside even money bets, pays 1 to 1.
Object of the game
To win at roulette the player needs to predict where the ball will land after each spin. This is by no means easy. In fact, luck plays an important part in this game. Some players go with the winning numbers calling them 'hot' numbers and therefore likely to come up more times. Others see which numbers did not come up for some time and bet on them believing that their turn is now due. Some players bet on many numbers to increase their chances of winning at every spin, but this way the payout is considerably reduced.
QUESTIONS!
1) Have you ever player Roulette?
2) Do you think that playing with friends the Roulette with small money is risky?

1. No. I have never played Roulette, even in Internet.
ReplyDelete2. All random casino games are risky. I know that many people have tried to beat roulette system, one of them was Albert Einstein. He said: "You can't beat a roulette table unless you steal money from it." I think this also can be reason why roulette is called queen of casinos - from casinos point of view, roulette produce big income. Most of players will walk away with less money than they expend. The funny thing is that the sum of all the numbers on the roulette wheel is 666.
Everything can be risky, even toothpaste can choke on.
ReplyDeleteI think that gambling and everything else is for the people. If you only have a little brain, although gambling is not dangerous.
I think that gambling makes people who are very weak psyche, personal problems etc..
I haven't played Roulette YET... Perhaps I should try, I'm afraid that's the only way to discover what it is really like. Gambling doesn't attract me too much, even though I rather enjoy some risk in my life, so I suppose it wouldn't be dangerous for me. But I' sure it can be extremely dangerous for people who are prone for addictions. I think that everything that lures you with the promise of a big gain in short time involves some risk and may be a trap.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Asia that people who find their psychic weak shouldn't try it.
ReplyDeleteI tried roulette only on internet - for me it is kind of phenomenon. I know one worker of company which owns such casino page. In Poland it is prohibited to gamble for money in internet so there is a system that allows you to play for points. You have to buy some but cannot sell those which you win. There are people who buy those points for hundreds of zloty's every day (single purchase!) with no perspective to regain those money. Sometimes I'm really amazed of human need of risk(?)
The only roulette I played was some children version game with plastic chips. It was tiny and most of the time if I wanted to spin it the ball would fly God knows where and land in every possible place but NOT my roulette!
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, this has to be one of simplest games ever. You said that luck plays important role in this game. Thats an understatement. The game depends only on luck or at least mostly.
The only thing you can do to somehow increase your chances is perhaps try to place the bet right before they close them, waiting till it spins slower but even then it barely gives you any edge.
The good part about this game is that apparently its rather hard to cheat while playing it, on the contrary to card games for example where some people pull of such amazing tricks you would be surprised. They can do things so well that even cameras wont register a thing.
As for danger of playing the game. Its as dangerous as any other form of hazzard. If you get into it too much, you may end with same kind of problems as in case of everything else you can find in a casino. Or...however unlikely..with some additional cash.
I'v played roulette but only with virtual money. If you are wondering - yes I lost my cash:( I think that winning in this game is just luck, but I've read somewhere that some people have their 'systems' that allows them predicting which number will be next. I wonder how this is possible, but if somebody gets such system - let me know :)
ReplyDeleteIf you try to play it, you can get addicted :) many people is addicted of hazard, the throw out big amount of money, thinking the may win... it is just addiction :)
ReplyDeleteI heard before about roulette, but I didn't know the rules how to play, but now I know :)
I've tried it in a real casino - it's really addicting. Even though I lost everthing I came with, it was still somewhat satisfying. That dose of adrenaline and emotions. Of course you are more likely to loose everything you bet, it is really a lot of fun. One should notice that it's a really sociable game that takes a lot of interaction with other players. That's surely another pro.
ReplyDeleteAs for cons it can be truely a disaster for an addictive person. The guy who was playing with me and my friends was betting amounts of money like 1k PLN. Obviously he lost more than he won.
